the talent from the class is something i am loving to get put out there in the world for all to see.

i love the look and feel of some of the image transfer books i have done over the years.
working on a few more samples and ideas for the Chicago Calligraphy collectives conference here in Elgin coming up in july titled "Letter's Mingle Souls"
the best part about it for me is that i will be getting to once again, do a collaborative teaching workshop with my kind, talented, and soulful "mark making" friend Pamela Pausrud.
visit the site often to see samples of the talents of these amazing artists. some whom will be traveling from as far away as belgium, to present a wide variety of bookarts, calligraphy, paste papers, and so much more. i hope that you will perhaps even make time to see the exhibit or maybe even take a class or two!

there is something very special about a handmade book.
you can feel the weight and energy of the hand of the maker in all of it's parts and pages, at least that is how i would like to think i approach things made by hand.
i was revisiting some of my painted book covers recently, when i came across this is one...artists should feel good about their work, and i feel especially partial to this one. this happens to be one of my favorite out of the handmade and painted books that i have done.
it has this lovely lokta paper from nepal in beautiful earthy tones, with a paired down- tipped on handpainted cover front and back- which i did in acrylics on a heavy watercolor paper.
the handmade drop spine box, i finished with the same wonderful long strand daphne fiber lokta.
i can't wait to show you some of the other work i have done...
there is much to share and i am excited about pulling them all out for another look, including some of the newer pieces i have been creating.

it has felt far too long since i just played with paint and wax and color and words...i mean really played with them in my hands. quietly and patiently.
so i made myself a promise to give "playtime" back to myself in this new year.
since i love making books, i decided to create small special vessels of sorts to give to my friends.
these are the intimate spaces i hope to create as gifts back to the people who offer up so much peace to my life.
so, i have been doing lots of little drawings, tiny watercolors, and bits of nature for inclusions into these "waiting-but not done" handmade books for my friends.
i have already stitched a handful of signatures to create 6 small books - the intention is that feature small phrases, paintings, wishes and blessings for the new year. they are based on a thought a month for my friends to carry them through the year. i have begun working into 3 of the books so far, but they are slow in building into the picture i have in my head. i hope to share some of the pages to keep myself motivated to complete them by valentines day!

sometimes i think the less fussy we are about ordering our creative lives the better the spirit can flow, 'cause as my spirit guides know, i usually called upon them when i am in lifes biggest messes!
